More UX leadership within tech organizations. More director-level or VPs of UX.

Tying design to dollars. In other words providing a ball park guess as to what a particular design will deliver in terms of conversion/retention.

Finally, live site AB testing like Netflix. In other words let's design a few versions try them all & see which one delivers the best metrics & go with that.

I agree with you. As User Experience gets more traction as a business process rather than a "design" process it will be better represented at the board level. – Matt Goddard Oct 15 at 17:11
I agree that there's definitely a trend of more companies placing an importance on UX with the focus shifting to more senior levels but for companies to really progress I think its got to be a concept that the whole organisation adopts. It shouldn't be the responsibility of person necessarily. – paulseys Oct 15 at 21:43

Well - everybody and their dog seems to be looking at ways to integrate Agile and UX at the moment. Which I think is excellent since I've been a fan of both for years :-)

everyone's talking about simplicity

Except Don Norman who's talking about complexity :) – Matt Goddard Oct 15 at 9:42
I love it when Norman's playing the troll. His writing on "HCD considered harmful" is great stuff. Clever rhetorics makes us think harder and apply criticism to our own work – mattti Oct 16 at 7:54
Simplicity is fun :-) Since the OP was asking for references he might find some of Maeda's work (weblogs.media.mit.edu/SIMPLICITY) of interest... – adrianh Oct 16 at 10:41

There's some interesting stuff on uitrends which, in the words of the founders, is intended to be:

  • a dynamic light-weight repository for interesting user interface designs and trends for website and web applications
  • a place to comment on and discuss user interface designs and trends
  • a source of inspiration for designers and developers"

There seems to be an ever growing trend towards remote usability tools e.g. websort, survs, userzoom etc. In the most part I presume its mainly down to cost effectiveness and availability.

But do you get the contextual information that so important when running face to face user tests? – Matt Goddard Oct 15 at 21:51
It's certainly down to cost... whether it's "effective" I'm not so certain :-) – adrianh Oct 16 at 10:42
Remote testing may be useful if you like to sell your product or service to other countries. But I agree that in general face to face tests are much more effective. – Kostya Oct 16 at 13:15
