I would like to continue my academic research in this field (and perhaps lecture at the same time). Do you know of specialized courses (on Usability, UI, UX, or XD) taught at a University? Are you a student / assistant / professor in related fields who can help? Please let me know.

Here's a list of resources on UX/HCI university and other courses - they cover multiple geographic areas since I didn't see your location listed in your profile:

1) IAI's list of Schools Teaching IA

2) HCI Webliography List of Educational programs (e.g., BS, MS, PhD)

3) HFI's List of Graduate Degrees in Software Ergonomics

For CA, there's Stanford. For NY, there's NYU, SVA or SCAD.

I think the ixda forums are a good place with lots of people giving advice:

Most Engineering programs have individual courses in Human Factors, and some schools have Human Factors graduate programs. For undergrad, many Industrial Engineering programs allow you to focus on the Human Factors area of Industrial Engineering. These are your best standard bets for any sort of usability studies at standard universities. Depending on the school, you may be able to get a more specialized course, but it is currently pretty rare.

Thank you all for taking the time to answer my question.

Location wise I'm looking for universities in any of the following:

  1. CA and NY states,
  2. Barcelona (Spain),
  3. Istanbul (Turkey).

There will be many factors regarding my decision to study where. Currently I'm looking to visit some of them and if possible meet some of the professors.

If you have any suggestions please let me know.

Boon, thank you for writing. I will look into those universities. If you have any more ready information about the details please let me know.

I forgot to specify earlier that I've done my graduate degree on Economics in the University of Southampton (UK) and I was wondering if I could continue to do a postgraduate degree in this specific field (rather than continuing my postgraduate research under more general field of Design in Hacettepe University Ankara Turkey) would not only be more logical but also more beneficial since XD is what I would like to specialize in. Also my English is better than my Turkish (would be easier to write my thesis) and no doubt American schools offer better education with more qualified teachers.

I've stumbled across IxDA in my search and found out that there is an IxDA Istanbul group as well. There will be a meetup on 19th February I'm planning to attend.

This site has proved very useful.. I've created an account.

The School of Information at UC Berkeley offers a Master's degree with an optional focus on UI design. What do you think about that?
